My son recently came home with marks on a writing exam that he was not happy about. We reviewed what he wrote and his teachers feedback together.
His first challenge - lack of punctuation where it matters. We talked about the important role punctuation plays in making sure the message can be understood and is clear.
I then explained that punctuation is just as important as the words and can make what's written more engaging and compelling.
He didn't have an opportunity to re-read what he wrote because he spent all his time putting onto paper the ideas he was inspired to write. So we talked about the balance between being creative and being concise.
When we were done, he said, "Clear. Compelling. Concise. You should make that the Three Cs of Good Communication."
So there you have it. You're welcome. :)
